Integrated Control System for Pipe Organs
Matters, Inc., in 1986, offered its first fully integrated control system for pipe organs, adding fiber optic communication between console and chamber in 1990. This first fully integrated system included features such as unlimited record/playback, unlimited memory levels, transposer, programmable crescendos, and piston sequencer to name a few. Since then, development has continued, the goal being to maintain all systems with upgrades, while at the same time introducing new components that expand capability and reduce component count. A very much ‘green’ application of technology, and reducing costs associated with pipe organs, goals that have proved to be very satisfying outlets for creativity and artistry, while maintaining respect and restraint, not putting technology ahead of the “King of Instruments”.
